What is That Empty Space
The Students’ Union’s (SU) That Empty Space is your key destination if you are looking to hang out, find an alternative space to study or enjoy arts performances. The space is also available to book for SU-sanctioned club and other campus group events.
That Empty Space-A History
Recognizing the need for more common space for students to gather, in 2006 your SU executive of the time decided to make use of some unoccupied space on the main floor of MacEwan Student Centre. An empty storage area was refurbished with couches, a stage area and bar area and fondly named “That Empty Space” in honour of the areas origins.
Over the next few years “That Empty Space” developed into a hot spot to attend poetry readings, art showings or just a quiet area to grab a coffee and hit the books.
“That Empty Space” and its events proved so popular that in 2009, thanks to Quality Money, a renovation project was approved to move That Empty Space to the first floor of MacEwan Student Centre. Renovations to the space included increased seating capacity, more space for students to study during quiet times as well as a new bar/service area. The increased space also offers SU-sanctioned clubs and other groups a great resource for holding special events.
