Student Ombuds Office

From time to time you may encounter difficulties and challenges in your academic career. Whether it’s receiving a final grade that you feel is unfair, facing charges of academic or non-academic misconduct or a breakdown in communications with your instructor or supervisor, your SU can offer support and guidance.

Your Students’ Union (SU) in partnership with the University of Calgary (UofC) and the Graduate Students’ Association (GSA) offers a key advocacy resource to assist in addressing your academic and non-academic concerns and issues with the Office of the Student Ombudsperson.

The Office of the Student Ombuds provides independent, impartial and confidential support for students who require assistance and advice in addressing issues and concerns related to their academic careers. The office also makes recommendations, where appropriate for changes in university policies and procedures while also promoting discussion and focus on institution-wide concerns.

The ombudsperson is available for consultation with students for academic and non-academic issues including:

  • required to withdraw for poor grades;
  • term and final grade reappraisals;
  • academic misconduct involving cheating, copying and plagiarism;
  • non-academic misconduct issues;
  • proceedings under the University’s Non-Academic Misconduct Policy.
