Students’ Union Alumni Association – SUAA

The Students’ Union Alumni Association (SUAA) is the official community group for alumni of the University of Calgary Students’ Union (SU). We are former student leaders, student staff, and staff members who share an appreciation for our time at the SU and all the adventures that came with it.

We provide opportunities for SU alumni to come together as a community, network, give back to the SU, and support the current student leaders who strive to build a better student life and student experience at the University of Calgary.

We hope you will join us and get even more out of your time at the SU and give back to an organization that helped make us who we are today!

What are the benefits of joining the SUAA?

Joining the SUAA gives you access to a wide network of amazing people with whom you share similar SU experiences.

  • Reconnect and Network – Get reacquainted with old SU friends and colleagues and make new connections with numerous other alumni. SU alumni have gone onto a wide variety of important leadership roles in societies as politicians, activists, lawyers, doctors, entrepreneurs, artists, policy makers, and so much more.
  • Community – Some of the best friendships we’ve made were through the SU. The SUAA will host several events throughout the year to give you and your friends the chance to catch-up and enjoy the best parts of being an alumni of the SU. Our events provide some great times with great people.
  • Sharing Knowledge – Many of us were fortunate to have former student leaders and staff members to lean on for advice and encouragement when the going got tough. We want to give alumni the opportunity to mentor current student leaders so they can benefit from our experiences and get even more out of their time at the SU. Additionally, we want to support student leaders as they transition out of SU life and figure out their next steps and future goals.
Who is eligible to join the SUAA?

You are eligible to join the SUAA if you are a former SU:

  • executive;
  • Students’ Legislative Council or Students’ Academic Assembly member;
  • other elected official (i.e., Board of Governors or Senate student-at-large);
  • full time staff member; or
  • part time student-staff member, for at least a year, in student services or communications.

Access to all of the benefits, events, and support that comes with being a member of the SUAA, including the opportunity to help run the organization as an elected board member, can be yours free for the SUAA’s first year in 2023 and for a small annual membership fee in future years.

Recent student alumni get access to the benefits, events and supports and pay no fees for the first three years after their time with the SU ended.
